The Mushroom Cryptomeria, or Mushroom Japanese Cedar, is an unusual conifer with very different texture to add to your miniature garden trees and a true pleasure to grow. Doesn't need a lot of pruning at all - just keep any wayward growth in check if you like. The delicate, airy branches would be perfect in a fairy garden. 

The summer colors are light greens on pretty light-pink stems. The winter color changes to dramatic russet and mahogany tones in the colder temperatures AND it's deer resistant.

Best in a partly shaded or cool-sun spot with evenly damp soil. The part shade will help keep the soil evenly damp.

It's a little faster growing than most of our trees but perfect for the backdrop or screen at the back of your miniature garden. 

  • Growth: 6" to 8" per year
  • Mounds gradually
  • Cold hardy Zones: 6-9 or to -10F
  • Heat Zones: 9-4
  • Cool full sun to part sun
  • Regular water, do not let the soil dry out completely
  • Protect from drying winds
