This miniature garden tree, the Moon Frost Canada Hemlock, is a favorite mini garden tree for shade or part sun. It ages really well and can be kept in a tree shape for years.

Shear it gently in late winter to keep the canopy in shape and in proportion to the trunk/garden. It will help keep the color-changing throughout the seasons too (see below.)

It can do well in full (cool or eastern) sun as long as the ground remains evenly damp and cool - in zones 4 through 8. It often mimics a small tree with its small trunk(s) underneath the airy foliage.

This Hemlock variety is fun - it changes color throughout the year if it gets enough light. In deeper shade, the foliage will stay a dark green but the spring growth will still flush-out in a cream-color:

    - Late winter/early spring, the whitish-green needles will get a pink blush on them.

    - Springtime, the new growth is a creamy white at the tips of the branches (A treat for the eye at the end of a long winter.)

    - Summer, it turns back to a light gray-green celery color.

    - Winter, shear it back before the new growth begins so you can appreciate the creamy tips in the springtime.

    And the cycle continues!
