Whoa Nelly! How charming is this? A miniature Zinnia! It's also called Creeping Zinnia because it grows prostrate (sideways,) but we've found that it's a perfectly-sized miniature bush - with flowers! Long blooming and easy to grow.
- AKA Sanvitalia 'Tsavo Cmpt Golden Yellow'
- Heat-tolerant but keep it watered. If it does dry out by accident, soak it immediately and it should bounce right back if it hasn't been left dry for too long.
- Dead heading is not necessary - the plant "buries its dead" with the new flowers covering up the old ones.
- Regular fertilizer with organic flower fertilizer - we like the Dr. Earths brand of fertilizers.
For the Northern and Central States = Annual
For the Southern States = Perennial (Hardy to 20F)
HARDINESS - It's supposedly hardy to 20F or Zone 9 but I've seen it overwinter in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains which is around zone 7. We've had one overwinter here in Seattle (Zone 8, 10F) for several years now.
- Full sun
- Growth shape is mounded
- Flowers are about 1/2" wide and perfectly cute!
- Can mound up to 10" in certain situations
- Can spread up to 12" or more in some regions
- Can be pinched back to control direction or growth
- Great in the ground or in a pot
- Cold zones 9 thru 11, hardy to 20F
- Heat hardy zones 12 thru 1
- Comes in a 4" pot
- An annual plant
- An outdoor plant
***Unlike the rest of our plants this one is an ANNUAL and not guaranteed to come back next year if you're in a cold clime. However we have seen this survive our coldest winter last year, (2018-2019) here in Seattle, zone 7, where we had an unusual amount of freezing and snow for weeks. UPDATE: The annual plant actually survived two more winters, getting a bit smaller each year, but it didn't make it through our 2022 winter that was long and cold. ***
