The Mother Lode Juniper is a surprisingly a great dwarf shrub for the miniature garden. A great candidate for Bonsai artists, so we can be confident that its a tolerant tree for containers, as well as frequent pruning.
It's a ground cover shrub that stays low to the ground and the new growth reaches out slowly, never upwards, only sideways and it's easy-peasy to control. Just trim it where you want.
The Mother Lode works well with Spruces, Pines and of course, other Junipers because they all like the same conditions: to dry out to barely damp soil (not dry, wrung-sponge-damp,) between watering sessions with sharp drainage and full sun. Drought tolerant once established in the ground.
The best part of the Mother Lode Juniper is the color. Lemon yellow tipped foliage in the summer will turn greener in the shade, then the winter's blush turns it to lovely deep orange in the fall and then gets plum-colored tips in the colder regions.
