Piccolo Japanese Holly - Ilex crenata 'Piccolo'

A miniature, slow-growing evergreen Japanese holly. It had me at hello. The dense branches, the tiny glossy, dark green leaves and its fun mounding habit makes it a perfect miniature garden tree.

This lil' shrub appreciates well-draining soil if it's in a container - so if your potting soil doesn't look like it's peppered with the vermiculite or pearlite - add a handful or two when planting. 

Cold hardy to Zone 5 or -20F (-29C)  AND heat hardy. It can handle moderate summer warmth but avoid that hot afternoon sun. Plant it in a spot with afternoon shade if you're in a hotter zone.
