The aged-looking reddish-brown bark contrasts against rich emerald foliage, a daintier, narrower-growing relative of the Zmatlik arborvitae.
It's very well-behaved and easy to grow — drought-tolerant in-ground, or in a container just let the soil dry to wrung-sponge-damp between waterings. With its ruggedness and finely textured, dark green foliage, it really looks like a big forest tree — but in miniature.
Winter blush turns deep amber, returning to emerald as weather warms.
At 2", this is the perfect size to start an entirely tiny-scale garden of its own — or to tuck in as a smaller accent layer alongside our 4" trees, adding depth and variety to your design without crowding it.
- Light: Full sun to part sun
- Shape: Upright narrow
- Growth rate: 2"–5"/yr; compact growth
- Cold hardy to -40°F or Zone 2–7
- Heat zones 7–1
This is a young plant and will need a little extra shelter from weather extremes while it gets established.
**Last photo shows the winter blush.
