Mini Maks Miniature Arborvitae — Thuja occidentalis 'Maks'

We are in love! A brand new, "extremely slow" growth rate of only 1" to 2" per year. Here at Two Green Thumbs' we love the dwarf Arborvitaes for our miniature gardens and miniature landscapes because they look like a full-sized tree - in miniature. This little Maks really looks like a "big" little tree! 

PERFECT for the realism which brings the enchantment. 

While this variety is new, Arborvitaes are usually very well-behaved and easy to grow. Drought-tolerant in-ground, but still needing water during the dry months. Note that the Maks isn't as hardy as our other Cedars. 

They are great in containers and the Arborvitaes end-up bonsai-ing themselves naturally.  Just let the soil dry-out to wrung-sponge-damp between waterings, especially in a container. 

Winter blush turns a rich bronze color, returning to that deep green as weather warms.

At 2", this is the perfect size to start an entirely tiny-scale garden of its own — or to tuck in as a smaller accent layer alongside our 4" trees, adding depth and variety to your design without crowding it.

This is a young plant and will need a little extra shelter from weather extremes while it gets established.

• Spring/Fall Maintenance: Clean out the dead leaves inside the shrub when you see it. Called 'conifer dieback.'
• While they're young, avoid hot summer afternoon sun when planted in a container
