The Mother Lode Juniper is a surprisingly a great dwarf shrub for the miniature garden. A great candidate for Bonsai artists, so we can be confident that its a tolerant tree for containers, as well as frequent pruning.

It's a ground cover shrub that stays low to the ground and the new growth reaches out slowly, never upwards, only sideways and it's easy-peasy to control. Just trim it where you want.

  • Growth rate is 3 to 6"/yr
  • Prostrate growth habit
  • 4" tall
  • Colors change with the seasons
  • Turns brighter yellow in full sun
  • Trim back any wayward branches
  • Can cascade down a wall or pot
  • Cold hardy zones 3 - 9 or -40F
  • Heat hardy zones 9 - 1
  • Great for hot, dry areas
  • Full sun to part shade (sun will bring out the best color)
  • Regular water until established but let dry out in between to avoid over-watering
  • Let dry out to barely damp in between to avoid over watering if in a container
  • Comes in a 4" pot
  • An outdoor plant
