The trees in this set are outdoor trees and come in 2 1/4" pots as shown. They can be planted in full sun to part sun with well-draining soil. Let them dry out to barely damp in between watering sessions if they are grown in a container, to avoid over-watering. Shelter them from that hot, western summer sun in warmer zones if planted in a container.

  • As a group, cold hardy to zones 5 to 8, or to -10F
  • Heat hardy zones 8 to 1
  • Winter Maintenance: Clean out the dead leaves inside the trees when you see it
  • These are young, baby plants that will need shelter from the extremes

  • Full sun to part sun
  • For containers or in-ground
  • All are outdoor plants
  • Come in 2 1/4" pots

**In order as they appear:

Blue Star Dwarf Juniper - Juniperus squamata 'Blue Star'

The blue-green foliage of the Blue Star Juniper stands out in any kind of garden, but it's particularly valuable when used as a miniature garden tree or shrub. Its branches are very pronounced and gives the scene a majestic look - but in miniature.

The colorful Blue Star Juniper can be paired with other gray-greens, silvers, creams, pinks and light greens for a charming display. The branches grow out from the trunk in a star shape, and the wee growth is pointed too - it's a "superstar" for miniature gardening!

  • Growth: 3 to 6"/yr
  • Cold Zones 4 to 9 or hardy to -30 to -20
  • Heat Zones 9 to 1

White Pygmy Cypress - Chamaecyparis pisifera 'White Pygmy'

The coloring is just lovely in the miniature garden - as the tips of the tiny foliage are a lovely cream color, turning into a beautiful gray-green color as you follow the branch towards the center of the shrub.

Shear it in late winter to keep it in a tight ball and to encourage the white tips. Full sun brings out the white tips also. A very fun cypress!

  • Creamy tips with rich grey-greens
  • Fun globe shape
  • Pretty coloring all year round
  • Growth rate less than 1"/yr
  • Zones 5 to 8, Cold Hardy to -20F
  • Heat Zones: 8 to 1

Top Point Atlantic Cedar - Chamaecyparis thyoides 'Top Point'

Lacy blue-green foliage on reddy-brown colored stems with an upright broad cone shape make this an excellent choice for the miniature garden. It really looks like a big tree in the landscape - but in miniature. A fellow MG, Laney in LA grows this plant with confidence in her climate.

  • In winter, the foliage blushes a lovely plum color
  • It can tolerate drier soil once established
  • Upright broad in shape
  • Growth rate is 2 to 5" per year
  • Hardy Zones 3 to 8, or -30F
  • Heat Zones 8 to 1
